Joy of Jazz Productions
Joy of Jazz Productions
, founded by Saxophonist and former Met All-Star Don Hanson, is committed to spreading the love of Jazz, and the legacy of its artists, through tribute presentations that include fun facts, quotes, biographical information and live performances of the artists’ signature tunes.Don's commitment to this high quality Jazz Edu-tainment was developed during his twenty plus years performing with the Met All-Stars in the NYC Public Libraries and other assorted venues where the group brought tributes to notable Jazz musicians, composers, and singers such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, George and Ira Gerswin, Cole Porter, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, among others.
Don Hanson has a B.S. in Music Education from New York University, and a Masters in Jazz Performance from Queens College, where he studied with the legendary Jimmy Heath. Mr. Heath writes about Don in his Book "I Walked With Giants" that Don is an "exceptional player.”
Don's experience as a Band Director in the New York City and Long Island Public School systems has also fueled his passion for not just performing the musicians' music, but telling their story. The result is a highly enjoyable and informative exposé of the artists perspective of the music.
The presentations are generally 1 hour and 15 minutes in length. The standard group consists of Saxophone, Piano, Bass, Drums, Vocalist and/or Trumpet.
We are looking forward to bringing the Joy Of Jazz to your venue as we celebrate the life and legacy of these amazing artists in the uniquely American art form known as Jazz.
